Global History

The Global History Group was formed in 2022 to move beyond British and European history and to explore the history of all the peoples of the world.

Meetings take the form of illustrated talks given by group members, accompanied by tea, coffee and home-made cake. These are often followed by lunch-time conversation and discussion in the Parade cinema.

Presentations are researched and delivered by a core group of members. But members are also welcome to simply attend and enjoy the company of fellow history lovers

We are focused currently on the world before 1000 AD / CE.
Amongst the topics we have covered are India under the emperor Ashoka, India’s trade with Rome under the Guptas, the Vikings and their trade with the Mediterranean, the Silk Roads, China under the Tang dynasty, the Sogdians, the Late Bronze Age collapse, and El Andalus and Moorish Spain.

New members are always welcome.

Meets: 3rd Tuesday, 10am – 12 noon

Venue: Friends’ Meeting House, The Parade
