Cycling

Fed up with cleaning muddy boots and scrambling over stiles?  Want some exercise in the open air in the beautiful local countryside?  Haven’t cycled for years but still remember how you enjoyed it?  Then why not join us?

The cycling group is primarily a chance to socialise, while cycling through Wiltshire and the neighbouring counties.  The route will usually be a 20 to 25 mile loop on easy country lanes and cycle paths and it will always include a prearranged refreshment break at a cafe for coffee and cake.

We also have occasional whole day rides when we stop for lunch and cover up to 40 miles.  We are a very friendly mixed group with currently nearly 30 members on the books.

Group members are encouraged to plan and lead a route if they wish.

Examples of rides undertaken include; the Two Railway Tunnels Path route between Bath and Bristol; various routes from Marlborough into the Pewsey Vale; through local villages past landmarks like Wilton Windmill, Crofton Pumping Station, Savernake Forest, Vale of Pewsey Chalk Carvings, Kennet and Avon canal, the Kennet valley, through the villages along the River Avon valley between Amesbury and Salisbury.

On the road we cycle in small groups lead by an appointed map reader and a sweeper to ensure no one gets lost or requires assistance.  We always cycle at a pace that is comfortable for everyone to ensure we can have a good chat.

The sun has just come out, so time to get down the allotment and maybe out on the bike later.
