The Day Trip Group aims to offer 3 or 4 day trips each year to places of interest within some 2 hours travelling distance from Marlborough.  We have no preset ideas, but plan to take full advantage of the abundance of places of interest in our region, spanning the arts, gardens, historic properties/sites, towns, cathedrals, exhibitions and combinations of these. All the places we visit will provide interesting and enjoyable days out without the hassle of driving.

Membership of the daytrip group isn’t necessary, but does mean you are the first to hear about any trip and so get priority booking. To join the group, contact the group leader by filling in the form at the bottom of this page.

Some recent trips:

March 4th 2026 was a sunny day and the coach reached Kensington in just under two hours. It was our 4th successful trip to London in two years. Fifty people on a coach and they all had a plan. The chance to go to London in comfort and visit an exhibition is always popular.

Exhibitions seen during those four trips included the well-known ones such as Cartier and Marie Antoinette at the V&A (where there is a lovely cafe – see the picture above) and Turner and Constable and John Singer Sargeant at the Tate. Seurat and the Sea and the exceptional Oskar Reinhardt Collection at the Courtauld Gallery were must-sees.

Some members took the opportunity to visit HMS Belfast, Leighton House, 2 Temple Place, Battersea Power Station and the really big attractions like Westminster Abbey and the Churchill War Rooms. On one trip we did an extra drop-off at the Imperial War Museum.

In May 2024 we went to Oxford. One member who knows Oxford very well gave us a guided tour. The Ashmolean houses many exceptional artefacts and it also has the benefit of an excellent roof-top restaurant.

In September 2024 we had yet another sunny day for a trip to Wells. The Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Vicars’ Close were fascinating.

A few months later in December, we went to Winchester. A member who had lived in Winchester gave a guided tour to an over-subscribed but very satisfied group. The Cathedral is Winchester’s jewel and was illuminated for Christmas.

In 2025 we visited London twice and also went to the charming Cathedral City of Chichester. The Pallant house Art gallery was outstanding.

We’re planning to visit Cardiff in June 2026 and I’m sure that we’ll squeeze in another London trip in autumn.
